#MovieThread, 2021 edition!
In 2020 I watched 101 movies from very early into first lockdown until August 11, and the another 138 between then and last night.
I did not do a formal thread for the first 101, but I did do one for the next 138: https://beepboop.one/@Alexis/104677806709308567
#28, I just grabbed some movies that I saw on multiple Oscar shortlists, I'm watching 2020's "News of the World," which I think has America's Finest Actor Tom Hanks in it?
@Alexis That's kind of confusing, wasn't The News of the World a British tabloid?
@kurt Hanks plays a guy who travels America post-Civil War to read newspapers out loud to audiences, but that's 30 years after the newspaper already exists, so maybe the Real Story here is he's a trademark infringer.
@Alexis There's no trademark in the wild west, that's the main reason for the name.
@kurt Trademarks in the Wild West are stamps you put on cows.
@Alexis Dawson Creek's got a movie sequel?
@kurt Apparently they built a whole city around that guy's creek when there turned out to be gold in them thar hills.
@kurt And/or film reels under them thar ice rinks.
β° "Groundhog Day" (1993)
@Alexis You should've seen the first 40'000 takes of it though.
β° "Groundhog Day" (1993)
@Alexis my (not entirely sincere) theory is that making Ned happy is what allows Phil to break free the loop
β° "Groundhog Day" (1993)
@tessaracked Mine is it's him delivering a good and sincere weather report, and everything else is just what he needs to get there. (But it's been a while, let's see if it holds up.)
Tom Hanks as America's first CNN.
