#MovieThread, 2021 edition!
In 2020 I watched 101 movies from very early into first lockdown until August 11, and the another 138 between then and last night.
I did not do a formal thread for the first 101, but I did do one for the next 138: https://beepboop.one/@Alexis/104677806709308567
Movie #6, 1934 Best Picture nominee "It Happened One Night."
I'm pretty sure this is the one romcoms, like. Come from. This is The Romcom.
🏦 "The House of Rothschild" (1934), in which Alex describes how this movie is antisemitic
I should be more specific -- this movie that I'm assuming will in the long run be about how great the Rothschilds are literally starts with cartoonishly stereotypical Jewish folks hiding their money and fixing their books because the tax man is coming.
🌌 "It Happened One Night" (1934)
@Alexis I still love that movie! I'm sure you've heard the rumor that it stopped American men wearing/buying undershirts
🌌 "It Happened One Night" (1934)
@Louisa It's like if we all came out of Tenet going "well why /don't/ we all walk backwards?"
@Alexis gasp, those monsters.
@The_T If I recall correctly, Austin's rationale was, one, that's how the Average Viewer would have experienced Clone Wars, two, just hitting play on the next one on Disney+ is easier.
@Alexis average viewers... those monsters...
idea for Doctor Who reading order podcast: every time there is a new release, we would record an episode for it and slot it into the podcast feed in a position relative to prior podcast episodes
@The_T it's not their fault, they don't know what they're missing...!
my idea for a Doctor Who podcast was, swap out the hosts when the cast changes, so, Susan leaves, so does the "Susan" host, Vicki shows up, you get a new fourth host in, etc.
@Alexis ...I would end up leaving so early then...
@The_T Yeah, it's more a Large Group Project that I don't exactly have a Large Group for.
@Alexis seems like a fool's errand and also I want to be in every episode
@The_T you can be the TARDIS
@The_T *considers* gotta skip Mission to the Unknown, tho
@Alexis for most serials, I could only talk about the first and last episode of the serial.
@The_T look, have I thought this all the way through? absolutely not.
@Alexis for half a second I was very confused and thought you were announcing you were buying a house
@The_T i thoroughly checked this apartment for lions before my pen ever came near the rent contract
@Alexis my apartment has a no-pet policy so I'm constantly disappointed there are no lions
@Alexis I think you should watch Zookeeper, The Zookeper, The Zookeeper's Wife, Zoo in Budapest and Poison in the Zoo next.
@kurt I like that you kept it pure and didn't include Zoolander.
@Alexis Zoolander isn't set in a zoo, it's a fucking rip off, total false advertising class action lawsuit.
@kurt I'm actually really tempted by your list, but I can't even find the first two.
@Alexis
I did find a torrent link for the 2011 Zookeeper film if you want (it's 600 mb and claims to be 720p).
Zookeeper's Wife is on Belgian netflix at least.
The other three I'm not finding either.
@Alexis Aah, wait, if you have some sort of vpn Zookeeper (2011) is also on Canadian netflix.
@kurt Oh, whoops, I meant, the first two chronologically.
@kurt But send me the link for the 2011 one, I'll happily commit to the bit for two movies worth.
Which means it might suffer a bit from that thing where what comes after it sort of perfects it, so the thing that invented it looks a bit weak by comparison, but I'm sure it'll at least be pretty watchable.
